When purpose meets passion: Nawal Haddad shares her journey

Nawal Hadad Fitness, established in 2013 aims to inculcate fitness into the daily lives of women. The founder, Nawal Alhadad, shares with us what inspired her to start on this venture and the challenges she faced.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am 26 in age, proud mom and from a loving family of 5. I’ve always thought of entrepreneurship as an innovation. The power of being able to change how the story starts, develops and grows – I found that so enticing and I am so grateful I had the chance to be a part of it. Also, I’m the sort of person who likes to evaluate risks and dive into any opportunity I get. So entrepreneurship seemed like the perfect option for me.

What inspired you to do what you do, and to keep on doing it?

The idea behind NHF began upon the realization that there were little to no all-ladies gyms or fitness classes around. I wanted to provide a feminine environment, where women of all ages can come together and work out. Best part of it all, they keep coming, burn calories and lose all that weight without realizing because it’s so much fun.

Now we’ve grown and expanded to support our corporate clients as well with fitness programmes.

What are the key challenges you faced as an entrepreneur?

In terms of business, it would be to have the classes be engaging and fun, and at the same time let our clients know that we are serious about propelling them into a better, healthier lifestyle.

Owning a lifestyle business makes it hard for me to draw the line between work and personal life sometimes, I often have to remind myself and reorganise my priorities, especially since I’m now a mum with bigger and essentially more rewarding responsibilities.

What do you derive the most satisfaction from?

Progress of our members. Not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. I believe that exercise brings out a different persona in you. With our classes over the years, it seems like we’ve created a support group where our members feed off each other’s incredible energy and cheer each other on.

Does wellness fit into an entrepreneur’s schedule?

Staying healthy increases productivity. The healthier you are (both body and mind), the more you allow space for growth. People often underestimate this, but making time for personal development encourages more opportunities to achieve one’s fullest potential.
