A tale of success built on resilience

Owner of Saffrons Restaurant, Mdm Beevi Ayoob has been in the food industry for more than 30 years. She started off as a home-based freelance food caterer and after seeing that people enjoy her cooking, she decided to open up a stall with the help of a relative. To her, it was an opportunity for her to provide her children with good education and better standard of living.

Today, Saffrons has expanded and blossomed, making a mark in the local food scene. Last year, Mdm Beevi was awarded Promising Entrepreneur of the Year award and Most Resilient Indian Entrepreneur by the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI). She was also awarded the Honourable Entrepreneur Award by SMCCI in 2017.

However, the road to this success was not an easy one for Mdm Beevi. One of the many challenges she faced was having to sell her 5-room HDB flat in order to sustain her business. Mdm Beevi saw it as turning point for her business as it allowed her to have extra money in hand.

To Mdm Beevi, one of the most important thing that an entrepreneur should have in order to succeed is confidence and clarity in what he wants. She said, “Be sure of what you want and what you are good at. Be powerful in what you do and do the best that you can.”
